These three started the Hartford Street Zen Center and the Maitri Hospice for People with AIDS. Philip was a highly respected poet & one of the premier writers of The Beat Generation. He was Abbott of the Hartford Street Zen Center (1992-2002). His books include Heavy Breathing; Poems 1967-1980, On Bear's Head, Severance Pay and Canoeing Up Cabarga Creek:Buddhist poems 1955-1986. He passed away in 2002.
